AbstractIn this lecture, Prof. Wu Yun-Dong would like to share with you

(1) His path to chemistry;

(2) Several early successful stories of his research;

(3) An in-depth account of recent investigation of addition reactions to alkynes.

Speaker Profile:

Yun-Dong Wu received his B.Sc. from Lanzhou University in 1981 and Ph.D. from University of Pittsburgh in 1986. In 1992, he joined the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (HKUST) and became a Chair Professor of Chemistry in 2007. He moved to Peking University in 2010 and served as the Chancellor of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School during March 2016-March 2019. Currently he serves as the Executive Vice Director, Shenzhen Bay Laboratory.

Prof. Wu has made original contributions to a wide range of chemical problems including mechanistic understanding of catalysis and design of catalysts, secondary structures of peptides, protein/protein interactions, and residue-specific protein force fields.

He received National Science Award of China in 1999 and 2013 respectively, Croucher Award in 2000, Thomson-Reuters Research Fronts Award in 2008, Fukui Medal of APATCC in 2014, Physical Organic Chemistry Achievement Award of Chinese Chemical Society in 2015, Humboldt Research Award in 2016. He was elected to member of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2005. He has been a Board member of the World Association of Theoretical and Computational Chemists since 1999 and was elected President of APATCC in October 2019.
