Impression of CUHK-Shenzhen by Freshmen

         I vividly remember the beginning of September 2018. It was the beginning of my first year here. Right from the start, I sensed that Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) is a unique place. The administration, college activities, gala dinners and memorable speeches all create a unique feel to this university. Having studied here for 18 months, I have gained a deeper understanding of how special this university truly is. 

         Be it acamedic or social activities, CUHK-Shenzhen presents many opportunities for me to develop as a well rounded individual.  For example, the university give students the chance to explore various subjects such as learning english. SALL (english learning center) provided immense support for students to improve on their language abilities. 

        The numerous majors available for students in CUHK-Shenzhen is incredibly benefitting. I decided to study Quantum Physics in order to understand the beginning development of quantum physics as well as the theories and concepts (e.g. Copenhagen Interpretation). This wouldn't be possible without the university's incredible resources and facilities.

      CUHK-Shenzhen's charm lies in the expansion of its academic fields as well as helping students to become global visionary leaders. Here, you can be whoever you want to be, make your own choices, develop your hobbies and go through the ups and downs of life. This university is the perfect place to develop your academic skills while also appreciate the campus' breathtaking beauty. You can use the campus shuttle bus, talk with professors at lunch and watch the beautiful sunset at the library's 4th floor. Studying in the library until 12 am, you will hear the magical music "River Flows In You" signalling the time for you to go back to the dorm. 

      President Xu's quote at the Orientation Ceremony in 2019, "the handshake is more powerful, the smile is more lasting, and the power of human dignity, wisdom are all valued here" created a lasting imapct on me. I hope you will be mesmerized by the university's inclusivity of students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

      CUHK-Shenzhen provides a platform for students to showcase their talent. If you have the courage, go for it. This summer vacation, I had to rehearse for the New Year show. this provided me the chance to flew outside of Shenzhen with several of my friends. 

     Challenges are never far from sight. I remember the first time I took the quiz on linear algebra, I was stunned to see the standard the university upholds for its students. However, memorable memories such as cooking roasted chicken with friends in the kitchen and participating in contests are what helped me balance my student life. 

     In my first semester in CUHK -Shenzhen, I enjoyed the lectures so much. I remember Professor David Tong using a yoyo to explain centripetal force. Professor Dong Xu Ji gave cookies and encouraged us to ask questions on wechat. Not to mention, Professor Shen Hao Yang explained mathematical concepts in a clear manner that I was able to follow through without falling behind from the course material. 

    All in all, I think I will have many precious memories of Shenzhen because of enrolling in CUHK-Shenzhen.
