Grand Opening of Shaw College
Prof. Yangsheng Xu, President of CUHKSZ delivered a welcoming speech. In his speech, President Xu expounded the origin of Shaw College. He thanked for the generous donation from Sir Run Run Shaw and Ms. Mona Fong. He said CUHKSZ would inherit and develop the tradition and the culture of Shaw College.
Witnessing the establishment of the first college in CUHKSZ, we are very grateful to Sir Run Run Shaw for his generous donation. At the time of making plans for establishing CUHKSZ, Sir Run Run Shaw sponsored and supported the overall development of CUHKSZ of its initial stage. Therefore, CUHKSZ especially named its first college as “Shaw College” and invited Ms. Mona Fong, Chairman of Shaw Foundation (Hong Kong) co., LTD, to the Grand Opening of Shaw College.

Later, President Xu presented the portrait of Sir Run Run Shaw as gift to Ms. Mona Fong to express appreciation for his generosity on supporting the establishment and development of the College.

Jiazhe Chen and Xiang Zhang, students of 2015, of Shaw College hosted the Grand Opening ceremony. Their excellent bilingual ability and stage manner were highly praised by the guests, the teachers of the College, the new students and their parents who participated the ceremony.
During the ceremony, Yafei Sun, the student representative of Shaw College, gave a speech on her dream life in the college.
Brief Introduction of Shaw College
In the autumn of 2016, Shaw College, the first college of CUHKSZ welcomed 1,000 new students ranging from undergraduate to PhD. Students Living in the same dormitory would be from different majors so that they will get acquitted with friends of different backgrounds. The friends they make in college will be their lifelong friends as they learn and grow together. In addition to sharing of the joy and the knowledge, the life of the students might change when they live in the college. Students might get to know a new field, choose a different research direction or generate creative ideas. In future, the students and the teachers of Shaw College will develop the activities with Shaw College characteristics, forming the tradition and culture of its own.
Besides the regular residency Shaw College of CUHKSZ, also provide study rooms, group discussion rooms, gym, canteen, laundry rooms and other facilities. Shaw College Canteen was opened recently. With freehand sketching and nice interior decoration, the Canteen were welcomed by our students. In addition, the College would develop our special activities including mentorship program, language and leadership skill training.
