The annual Shaw College Formal Dinner on 2017 was successfully held at Li Wen Building on November 23, U.S. Thanksgiving Day.





Thanks for being with Shaw on Thanksgiving. The annual Shaw College Formal Dinner on 2017 was successfully held at Li Wen Building on November 23, U.S. Thanksgiving Day.





Over 700 undergraduates and postgraduates from Shaw College attended the dinner on time in formal dress.

▲Before the dinner is served, following the instruction of Professor Xu Yangsheng , the President of CUHK Shenzhen, all students and guests rose and stood in silent tribute to Ms. Mona Shaw who recently passed away in peace.

Shaw College of CUHK (Shenzhen) was donated by The Shaw Foundation Hong Kong. Thanks to the generous support of Dr. Run Run Shaw and Lady Shaw, CUHK (Shenzhen) is in vigorous development. Lady Shaw passed away peacefully at the age of 83 right before the U.S. Thanksgiving this year. President Xu acknowledged the generous support of Lady Shaw in the establishment of Shaw College and expressed his deep condolence to her passing.

Professor Janny Leung, Master of Shaw College also expressed her condolence to Lady Shaw before the dinner.

On this year’s formal dinner, Shaw College is honored to invite Professor Sir James Mirrlees, Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences (1996), as keynote speaker. The topic of the 15-minute speech is “Big Cities” and Professor Sir James Mirrlees talked about the scale of some famous cities such as New York, Beijing and Shenzhen and the impact of the city scale on urbanization and economic development.

Apart from the keynote speech, there are other programs including Sand painting, Reading the Excerpt from the article Reading useless books, Being an interesting person, and Violin with piano accompaniment.

As the essential part of the dinner, the food is also beautiful and delicious.
