【Invitation】Shaw College Cooking Show on March 30
Dear Shaw College students,
“Chinese food cultures often reflect the unique values of the people. For thousands of years in China, food has become means for people to experience and understand the world. We use food to indicate the philosophy of life. In cooking and tasting we try, we share, we enjoy and we also suffer, and in doing so, food and life integrate together without blurring the boundaries completely. If someone from China talks about his regard and devotion for food, no matter where he is in the world, more likely he is talking about life. ” (From the documentary A Taste of China, Season III)
We are pleased to announce the first Shaw College Cooking Show, to be held between 15:00 and 18:00 on March 30rd, 2018. In the spirit of combining Chinese tradition with international perspectives, we hope this event could not only provide a platform for Shaw students to show their cooking talents, but also serve as a valuable teaching and sharing session on food cultures and the deeper philosophy they reflect.
Registration requirement: Participants are required to register by themselves or in groups of 2 to 6 students. We encourage exchange and international students to participate as well. In the registration form, you should provide the names of two courses you wish to cook at the show together with a list of all the kitchen wares and ingredients you need so that we could prepare them in advance.
Activity process: each participant/group will have their own working space in public kitchens at Tower C. Within 2 hours, each participant/group should finish the two courses as planned. Then student helpers will bring the courses to the Shaw Canteen VIP Rooms C201-203, where a committee consisting of the Master, delegates of staff, wardens, students and parents will taste and evaluate the courses. Awards including Best Flavor, Best Color, Best Match, Best Idea, and the Mysterious Award, will be presented together with souvenirs and trophies.
