In Dialogue with CHEN Zhonghe: The Legend of the Former Head Coach of China National Women's Volleyball Team

Biography of CHEN Zhonghe

       Born in Longhai, Fujian, CHEN Zhonghe is the former head coach of China women's national volleyball team from 2001 to 2008. He was in charge of the Chinese women's national volleyball team since 2001, which is the same year as the side won the World Grand Champion title, but his involvement with the team went beyond two decades. CHEN guided the Chinese national team to the gold medal at 2003 FIVB Women's Volleyball  World Cup. In the same year, he won "The Touching China Awards". The 2004 Athens Olympic Games highlighted the potential of his players as China defeated Russia in the gold medal match. Since then, he has won the hearts of countless volleyball fans across the country and around the world.

 Lecture Abstract

     CHEN worked in The Up to the Mountains and Down to the Countryside Movement in 1977. In 1979 he joined the team as a trainer and witnessed China winning its first world championship and ruled women's volleyball for 5 consecutive years from 1981 to 1986. He became head coach in 2001. He expected nothing but the best from his players, which propelled China to gold medals at the 2003 World Cup and the 2004 Olympics, bringing China women’s volley ball team back to the top of the world. However, the way to success and championship was also embedded with tears, fights, and struggles. Wearing his signature smile, Chen Zhonghe remained calm and upbeat to encounter all kinds of hardship. What is his spiritual strength and how did he succeed in leading the team to victory? CHEN Zhonghe will be invited to share his life experience.
