Student Representatives: Broaden Your Horizons and Be the Miracle

Yu Shuhua, a class-2019 student from SSE and Shaw College, on behalf of the senior students of the University, shared his experience at CUHK-Shenzhen and summarized it as two keywords for the freshmen: vision and exploration.

According to Yu, CUHK-Shenzhen provides students with a variety of courses and opportunities for overseas exchanges, which fosters students' ability to learn, gain insights and think critically. Here, the University is preparing students not just for careers but to go on a global stage. There is no specific definition of what a university life should be like. Everyone shall explore a unique path to the future. However, being a responsible global citizen who has a global vision and can contribute to society shall be students’ shared destination.

Wang Xingpei, a freshman from the Third Experimental Middle School in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, said as a freshman representative: "The University is the beginning of our exploration. What kind of life is ahead of us? Want to see a miracle? Be a miracle."

President Yangsheng XU: Be a Responsible Global Citizen who is Concerned about the World

First of all, university is not only a place to gain in-depth knowledge of the chosen subject, but to develop interest and enhance ability for future study.

Secondly, university not only teaches students how to learn, but, more importantly, how to become a better person who can serve the society with their intelligence.

Thirdly, young people should behave with cultural awareness. It is necessary for them to know about traditional Chinese culture and at the same time hold a global view, so that they can comprehend the great significance and the developing trend of human civilization.

At last, Professor Xu expected that students have the awareness of sharing and serving. To think for others and take responsibility as a member of a group. In this way, they will one day become a responsible citizen.
