Professor Qin pursued his studies at Tsinghua University, China, receiving his BS degree in Process Control and MS degree in Automatic Control in 1984 and 1987 respectively. He later obtained his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1992. From 1992 to 1995 he worked at Fisher-Rosemount of Emerson Electric as a Principal Engineer. From 1995 to 2007, he served at the Department of Chemical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, and held the Paul D. and Betty Robertson Meek and American Petrofina Foundation Centennial Professorship in Chemical Engineering from 2003 to 2007. Prior to joining CUHK Shenzhen, Professor Qin was the Fluor Professor of Process Engineering and the Vice Dean of the Viterbi School of Engineering at University of Southern California. He has published over 200 papers in international journals and conferences, with over 4700 ISI Web of Science (WoS) citations and WoS h-index of 37.
