Success in Translating Chinese Culture
That the translator plays an active role in the process from the source text to the target text or a new text has been widely acknowledged in translation studies. It is important to recognise that translation is first and foremost a communication, and furthermore an intercultural communication. In this communication there are two key elements: audience and intended message.
Dr Jing Han will use telling examples from her translations of the most popular Chinese dating show If You Are The One 非诚勿扰which has been shown on SBS TV since 2013 to illustrate and examine the success of translating Chinese culture.
