| Abstract: | Online shopping holidays, such as the Single’s Day (China) and Cyber Monday (US), can generate a significant demand surge that was a nightmare for the shippers to deliver on-time and thus often resulted in a huge blame to the shippers from both the sellers and the customers. In this work, we compare two shipping contracts, flat rate and risk penalty, to coordinate the seller’s inventory and the shipper’s capacity strategies to handle the significant demand risk with a win-win outcome. |
