Researching English across Asia and China
In this lecture, Professor Bolton will discuss current research with reference to the spread of English and its status and functions in societies across the Asian region. He will also discuss his own research on English in contemporary Hong Kong, and the history of English in China. Finally, the lecture will also identify areas of interest for future research, relevant to the development of greater China, as it plays an increasingly important role on the world stage.

Prof. Kingsley Bolton
Kingsley Bolton is Professor of English Linguistics at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Before coming to Singapore he served as Chair Professor of English at City University of Hong Kong, and Head of the English Department, and Founding Director of the Centre for Academic English at Stockholm University. He has published widely on English in the Asian region, language and globalization, sociolinguistics, and world Englishes. He is Co-Editor of the Wiley-Blackwell journal World Englishes, and Series Editor of the new Routledge book series, Multilingual Asia.
