Abstract:
Each talk can be seen from the perspective of models or methods. In this one we will try to overview some recent results in the queueing-theoretic analysis of high-performance and distributed computing systems, conceptually combining models and methods into an incomplete puzzle of three levels: analytical, simulation, technical.
Matrix-analytic method and regenerative approach will cover the analytical level, while discrete-event simulation and regenerative estimation will be useful for simulation, and we will scratch the surface of technical modeling as well. We will discuss a simple yet analytically tricky model of a supercomputer, several models of distributed systems, and arrive at energy-performance tradeoffs. The results covered are fruits of joint research with Prof. Evsey Morozov, Prof. Srinivas Chakravarthy, Prof. Garimella Rama Murthy and others.
