“Echo of Languages” (in Chinese: Qian Wen Wan Yu), initiated by Diligentia College, is a new series of culture and language activities in the university. “Wen (揾)” means “to look for; to search”. Diligentia College tries to empower our stTo to learn a new language/dialect is to meet a new soul. When facing with this diversified world, you will have to need a tolerant heart to be confident enough to accept your own culture and be ready to embrace the wonderful world. Students with new languages/dialects, and to introduce them into different cultures through various college courses.

When facing with this diversified world, you will have to need a tolerant heart to be confident enough to accept your own culture and be ready to embrace the wonderful world. “Echo of Languages” will lead you into a brand new and colorful world through unveiling the beauty of languages and cultures, and by doing so, equip you with cultural self-confidence and the courage to explore the world. Located in Guangdong province (Cantonese-speaking area), we are going to start our language and culture trip from Cantonese - the first “Echo of Languages: Cantonese Course”. The course includes 8 lectures and it lasts for 2 months. 

 

Time: 19:30-21:00, Every Tuesday evening from 26th February 2019

Venue: Diligentia College, Upper Campus

Applicants: This course is open to the teachers and students from Diligentia College only. The class will have no more than 30 learners and this course is designed for Cantonese beginners.

Learning Objectives: Obtained common Cantonese vocabulary; Able to conduct simple daily Cantonese conversations.

Teacher: Dr. Matthew Book, BEng (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology); MSc (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology); MBA (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand); CELTA (University of Cambridge); MA in TESOL (Victoria University of; Wellington, New Zealand); PhD in Applied Linguistics (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand). Dr. Matthew Book was born in Hong Kong and then he immigrated to New Zealand in 2000. Currently, he works in CUHK-Shenzhen as a Lecturer in English for Academic Purposes. Affiliated to Diligentia College, he takes an active part in college activities and he is also a member of the Scholarship Committee of our College.
