SSE and College of Biological Sciences, the University of Minnesota signed a faculty exchange agreement
Recently, The School of Science and Engineering of CUHK-Shenzhen and the College of Biological Sciences of the University of Minnesota have reached a faculty exchange agreement. The signing ceremony was held on December 9 at CHUK-Shenzhen, which highlights the deepening cooperation between CUHK-Shenzhen and UMN.
At the ceremony, Prof. Changwen CHEN, Dean of SSE, CUHK-Shenzhen and Prof. Valery Forbes, Dean of the College of Biological Sciences of the University of Minnesota officially signed the exchange agreement. Prof. Yangsheng XU, president of CUHK-Shenzhen, Prof. Tom Z.Q. LUO, Vice President (Academic) of CUHK-Shenzhen, Prof. Shiping ZHU, Vice President (External and Student Affairs) of CUHK-Shenzhen, Prof. Jesús SEADE, Associate Vice-President for Global Affairs, CUHK-Shenzhen and Prof. Samuel Mukasa, Dean of School of Science and Engineering, UMN witnessed the signing ceremony. Under the agreement, professors Professors of the College of Biological Sciences of UMN involved in the program will hold full-time faculty position at CUHK-Shenzhen for at least one year, undertaking research and teaching assignments. After the ceremony, Dean Forbes briefed SSE professors and students on the basic situation of the College of Biological Sciences and shared her latest research results.
In order to further implement the details of the program, Professor Mukasa, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering of the University of Minnesota, paid a visit to CUHK-Shenzhen during the same period. President Yangsheng XU met with Dean Mukasa and extended his sincere welcome. Vice Presidents of CUHK-Shenzhen including Prof. Tom Z.Q. LUO and Prof. Shiping ZHU, Associate Vice President Prof. Jesús SEADE, and Dean Changwen CHEN met with guests and conducted in-depth talks on teachers and research cooperation projects. During his stay, Professor Mukasa brought a wonderful speech about the opportunities and challenges of higher education to our students. After the lecture, the students had a lively discussion with Professor Mukasa about research, education and current affairs.
The two deans from UMN also visited Huawei, Tencent, and BGI to further understand Shenzhen's advantages and practical modes of cooperation in production, teaching and research.
CUHK-Shenzhen and the University of Minnesota has signed a strategic cooperation agreement in June 2017. Since then, two sides have worked together to further deepen the strategic partnership and will further promote cooperation projects to a broader and deeper level.
