First Seminar on International Exchange Programs Held at CUHK(SZ)

  For the purpose of “nurturing innovative talents with global vision,”which is emphasized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the first seminar on International Exchange Programs was held on campus on Dec. 9. Prof. Joe Qin, Vice President for External and Student Affairs, introduced to more than 200 students who attended the seminar the University’s ongoing activities in promoting academic exchanges. 

Various programs are planned for students at different levels, as introduced by Prof. Qin during the information sharing session. Starting from 2015, first-year undergraduate students will have the option to join SASA (Study-Abroad Summer Academy). Programs such as the Vancouver International Summer Business Program, Cornell University Undergraduate Summer Program and University of California Los Angeles Summer Session are all very likely to be opened to CUHK (SZ) students in 2015. More SASA opportunities with globally notable Universities are under discussions to accommodate increasing demands from students. CUHK International Summer School, another option for international exposure with other students from more than 30 countries, will also be offered to CUHK (SZ) students to gain summer experience in Hong Kong. The Study-Abroad Summer Academy is definitely an exceptional option for students who are motivated, eager and ready to experience the outer world.

For third-year undergraduate students and above, Exchange Programs and Joint Bachelor/Master Programs will be available. The agreed tri-continental program among University of British Columbia, CUHK (SZ) and Copenhagen Business School will enroll a group of 45 students (15 from each university) majoring in Global Supply Chain and Logistics Management to Denmark, China and Canada respectively for study in order to gain cross-continental learning experience. For students taking courses other than management science, a “4+1”Program between CUHK (SZ) and the University of British Columbia is to be established soon. To have access to the program, CUHK (SZ) students need to earn 6 extra credit units in related courses during their undergraduate study, and then they can directly pursue a master degree in management at University of British Columbia, Canada, after graduating from CUHK (SZ). With another 24 credits to be earned during a 2-quarter long graduate study, students of this program can receive a master’s degree from the University of British Columbia.

CUHK (SZ) is now actively reaching out and establishing partnerships with worldwide leading universities from North America, Central and Northern Europe as well as the Asia Pacific area for international academic exchange opportunities. In the meantime, CUHK (SZ) welcomes international students and student groups from partner institutions to come to CUHK (SZ) for various studies, research and cultural experience internships.

Dr. Andy Wong, Associate Dean of the School of Management and Economics, joined Prof. Qin to give students an update of the initiated local internship opportunities during the information sharing session.
