Dual Track Enrollment Expanded to Fujian and Jiangsu

In 2019, CUHK-Shenzhen is expected to recruit 1,200 undergraduates with its “dual track” enrollment expanded to Fujian and Jiangsu provinces.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen held the Spring Reception for Media 2019 on March 15th. The University presented the employment situation of its first two cohorts of bachelor's degree graduates to the media, and explained its admissions plan for 2019 as well as the University's role in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

 

In 2019, CUHK-Shenzhen is expected to recruit 1,200 undergraduates with its “dual track” enrollment expanded to Fujian and Jiangsu provinces. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences plans to launch a new undergraduate programme in Applied Psychology and a Master's programme in Global Studies. Meanwhile, two Ph.D. Programmes in Economics / Finance are introduced.

 

Dual Track Enrollment Expanded to Fujian and Jiangsu

 

In 2019, CUHK-Shenzhen is expected to recruit 1,200 undergraduates in 26 provinces (municipality) and autonomous regions across the country, a slight increase from last year. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences plans to offer a new "Applied Psychology" programme for undergraduate students.

 

The "dual track" enrollment model of CUHK-Shenzhen will be expanded to Fujian and Jiangsu provinces this year. By then, a total of six provinces and cities (Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Fujian and Jiangsu) will implement the "dual track" enrollment model with comprehensive evaluation tests conducted in Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Shanghai and Qingdao. The University will release an admissions brochure in early April this year.

 

Scholarships up to 600,000 Yuan for Outstanding Students

 

In 2018, CUHK-Shenzhen's first "Nobel Class" admitted 6 students among more than 100 outstanding students recommended by national key high schools. In addition to the generous "Nobel Class" scholarship, the shortlisted students were also provided with a personalized training programme taught by world-class instructors including Nobel Prize winners, Turing Award winners, and Fields Prize winners.

 

In 2019, CUHK-Shenzhen will continue to provide "Nobel Class" scholarships for outstanding students. Online applications are about to open in the near future. The enrolled students can receive a maximum scholarship of 600,000 yuan, including a full scholarship (380,000 yuan for four-year tuition fee + 100,000 yuan for four-year living expenses) and an overseas study scholarship of up to 120,000 yuan for future participation in international academic exchanges, laboratory research and academic conferences in world-class universities.

 

Bowen Scholarship of CUHK-Shenzhen, which is not based on the results of China's college entrance examination, is granted to students who excel in comprehensive quality, innovative consciousness and international vision during their high school studies. Both individual application and school recommendation (by key high schools) are eligible in this application. Students who are qualified for Bowen Scholarship and eventually admitted will receive 30,000 yuan per academic year (total of 120,000 yuan in four years). The 2019 application will be closed on May 15, and the list of qualified applicants will be published before June 1.

       

Gratifying Graduating Results from First Cohort of SSE Students

 

The employment rate for Class of 2018, the first cohort of undergraduates of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen reached 98.51%, ranking top among domestic universities. Graduates pursuing further study averagely received 3 offers from prestigious universities around the world. 63.64% of them choose to pursue a Master's/Ph.D. degree from QS top 50 universities. Over 70% of graduates who work immediately after graduation are employed by companies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area with an average annual salary of 137,500 yuan.

 

Class-of-2019, featuring the first cohort of SSE undergraduates, has also brought cheering news. According to Prof. Shiping ZHU, Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen, 70% of class of 2019 students are expected to continue their studies abroad, and have received as many as 400 offers from world-renowned universities such as Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, Carnegie Mellon University, ETH Zurich, Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University, and University of California at Berkeley. Among them, Lin Zhen from SSE has received a full-scholarship offer of an MIT doctoral programme in operations research, while Lv Yiwei, another SSE graduate, has been admitted to a Ph.D. programme in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

 

Ph.D. Programmes in Economics / Finance Newly Introduced

 

Prof. Yangsheng XU, President of CUHK-Shenzhen, specifically pointed out in the interview that, "The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area should have its own characteristics, which I think is an international environment with new innovation mechanisms to sprout." Catering to the financial industry, a signature driving force of the Greater Bay Area, CUHK-Shenzhen has introduced two Ph.D. programmes in Economics and Finance to train more talents for the bay area.

 

Vice President CAI highlighted the financial industry as the biggest feature of the Greater Bay Area. From his perspective, the booming financial industry has a great demand for high-end talents. In this regard, CUHK-Shenzhen provides a full range of related programmes in economics and finance from undergraduate to postgraduate level. The University is also preparing a finance-oriented EMBA programme to train high-level talents in financial management. In addition, the School of Management and Economics newly provided two Ph.D. Programmes (Economics / Finance) for students who aim to pursue a higher degree in these two areas.

 

Up to now, CUHK-Shenzhen has identified the following Taught Postgraduate Programmes for enrolling students this year: Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting, Master of Arts in Translation & Interpreting Studies, Master of Arts in Global Studies, Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Applied Psychology, Master of Science in Data Science, Master of Science in Economics, Master of Science in Finance, Master of Science in Financial Engineering, and MSc Programme in Supply Chain and Logistics Management. Besides, the University will also provide M.Phil.-Ph.D. Programmes in Biological Sciences, Materials Science and Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Finance, and Computer and Information Engineering.
