Visit of University of Birmingham

Prof. Jon Frampton, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor (China) and Director of the China Institute, Ms. Vivian Zheng, Director of Guangzhou Office from the University of Birmingham visited CUHK-Shenzhen on Oct 24, 2019. The purpose of the visit is to explore potential collaboration opportunities in teaching and research with CUHK-Shenzhen School of Life and Health Sciences.

The visitors were warmly received by Prof. Shiping Zhu, Vice President for External and Student Affairs of CUHK-Shenzhen. Prof. Bao-Ting Zhu, Associate Vice President for Institutional Development, Prof. Richard Ye, Dean of School of Life and Health Sciences and Mr. Paul Ke, Director of Academic Links met with the guests.

Founded in 1900, the University of Birmingham is a public research university. It was England’s first civic university, where students from all religions and backgrounds were accepted on an equal basis. There are around 8,700 international students from approximately 150 countries in the university and 31% of its academic staff from overseas. China is one of the key strategic areas of the University of Birmingham. The university has the China Institute which is a central hub for Chinese interests at Birmingham. The goal of the institute is to bring together people, ideas, funding, research, and academic excellence to help create opportunities for those keen to discover what China has to offer. In 2020 QS World University Ranking, the University of Birmingham ranks 81th.
