About the speaker

Mr. Lawrence Chan started his career as management trainee in IBM after his graduation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. His primary responsibility was China business development, marketing and sales and government relations. As a pioneer in China market entry for IBM, he had stationed in Beijing in the late 80’s and was appointed as Customer Centre Manager in the early 90’s when he was assigned to Shanghai and helped opened the IBM Shanghai office. Subsequently he had also worked for several NASDAQ and UK listed software and outsourcing services companies taking up positions as such Regional Director for Greater China, and Director for North Asia. He spent another few years working in Shanghai in the late 90’s. In 2002 He joined InvestHK, a Hong Kong Government Investment and promotion agency as their Head of East China Investment and Promotion.

He joined CUHK Business School in 2006 and is currently Director for Marketing and Student Recruiting for both MBA and Master Programs. In his role, he travels extensively to over 30 countries to interview and recruit MBA/Masters students for the Chinese University of Hong Kong. With years of experience in working in China, and in depth knowledge about Chinese economy, government relationships and corporate development, Mr. Chan is keen to offer advice and suggestions to career and personal advancement especially for mainland China students. A native of Hong Kong, He holds MBA from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and diploma in Management Consulting from the University of Hong Kong. He speaks fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese and also has working knowledge of Shanghainese.
