  • 2017.03.24
  • Event
This presentation uses cultural identity as a framework for individual identity. Elements of culture that shapes an individual will be discussed to contextualize the Afghan or (Persian) culture. In discussing "identity" I refer to either (a) a social category, defined by membership rules and characteristic attributes or expected behaviors, or (b) socially distinguishing features that a person takes a special pride in or views as unchangeable but socially consequential. In the latter sense, “identity” is modern formulation of dignity, pride, or honor that implicitly links these to social categories.
