Abstract:

Oracle bones are inscriptions on ox scapula or turtle plastron in Shang Dynasty (16th-11th century B.C.). With nearly thirty years effort, Professor Huang Qiyi finished two books with 1.4 million chinese characters-- The Wilderness of History and Criticism on the Research of Shang and Zhou Dynasties. These two books introduce a new and interdependent Oracle Bones Interpretation system, as well as a cognitive system of ancient history and culture. Professor Huang will focus on the reasons why the current systems of oracle bones studies are untenable, and how we establish a new cognitive system.

Speaker Profile:

Professor Huang Qiyi graduated from Sichuan University with a Master's Degree in history in 1980. He is a student of renowned Chinese historian, Mr. Xu Zhongshu. Later, he served as a professor of the History Department of the University. His main research fields are history of the Qin Dynasty, ancient Chinese characters and Chinese culture. He has published several academic monographs, modern and ancient poetry, etc.
