Abstract:
Why should one live a moral life? One traditional answer claims that a moral life is necessary for leading a happy life. One can even go so far, as some philosophers have, to claim that morality constitutes happiness. Yet, it seems that some people who engage in wrong-doing are no less happy for it. This Salon will take up the question concerning the relationship between happiness and virtue in the form of a debate with the affirmative speaker arguing that an immoral life can be happy and the opposite speaker claiming that morality is indeed necessary for living a happy life.
