Academic Writing Workshop
In humorous way, Dr.Christopher KLUZ distinguished argumentative essay from narrative essay, descriptive essay and expository essay firstly. He stated that argumentative essay is similar to the expository essay but it does not just explain. It presents a strong argument and uses logical structure to argue for a position or interpretation, uses interpretation, analysis, research, data, etc. as evidence.
Then, Dr.Christopher KLUZ enumerated five methods which we need to do before writing and explained them in detail. The five methods read as follows:
1.Read the prompt for the paper carefully.
2. Choose a question.
3. Develop a thesis.
4. Re-read the text with your thesis in mind.
5.Construct an outline of your paper that sketches the argument.
After preparing, we can begin our writing. Dr.Christopher KLUZ then introduced what we should write in the introduction, body, conclusion part respectively. For instance, in the conclusion part, restating your thesis and giving a concise summary of your arguments are necessary. However, usually no more new information should be given in this part.
Is finishing your writing an end? No, definitely not. You need to reread and edit your paper to make sure that there are logical and grammatical connections between your ideas and no spelling and grammar mistakes in your article. In addition, citation is also significant, don’t forget to use correct method to cite any idea, interpretation, analysis, research, etc. that is not your own.
