Abstract

Cao Cao was a warlord, poet, and the penultimate Chancellor of the Eastern Han Dynasty. The excavation of his tomb has caused widespread concern and controversy, which will be further elaborated in this lecture. Considering the layout of the burial sites, the unearthed objects and the corresponding literature, Professor Tang will answer why the real tomb of Cao was the one discovered in Xigaoxue Village in Anyang County, Henan Province, how to use documentary evidence and physical evidence through archaeological principles, and why DNA tests and thermoluminescence dating was not used in this process.

 

Speaker Profile:

Prof. Jigen Tang is a Professor of Southern University of Science and Technology. He has served as a Researcher at Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and has directed the excavation at Yinxu in Anyang. Prof. Tang played a significant role in inscribing Yinxu in the UNESCO world cultural heritage list in 2006.
